Lake Local Schools Food Service & Nutrition
Mission: Use our resources to place healthy learners in the classroom prepared to learn
Goal: Educate on making healthy choices
If your student received meal benefits by determination of a National School Lunch and Breakfast Application for the previous school year, for benefits to continue for this school year a completed application must be processed and a qualifying determination for the household done before benefits will continue. This is required each school year. Meal benefits are not extended without proper documentation and benefits do not apply to past charges.
For Athletic and Instructional fee waiver consideration, a completed National School Lunch and Breakfast Application AND Eligibility Release Form for the CURRENT school year must be completed, processed and qualifying eligibility determined.
National School Lunch and Breakfast Applications are available at the district website http://www.lakeschools.org or can be picked up at any school building office.
Lake Local Schools Food Service and Child Nutrition Program strives to place healthy learners in the classroom prepared to learn. The district participates in the USDA, Child Nutrition, National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. This USDA Program does not require that students who pay for meals be served a meal without payment.
Lake Local Schools charge policy for student Food Service accounts will allow students to charge a maximum in the amount of three lunches. No charges are permitted on ala carte items. Repayment for any charged meals is expected the next school day. Students who have reached their charge limit will be offered an emergency meal. Students over the charge limit will not be allowed to purchase ala carte items. Students that do not have funds to pay for daily meal and are not able to charge should notify the first food service staff member in line and will be given an emergency meal.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure consistency and fair practices with Food Service student accounts throughout the district, ensure the district is striving for solvency of the Food Service program and work to meet the nutritional needs of the classroom student.
Prepayments for student’s accounts are strongly encouraged to reduce lost funds and increase the speed of the service line during meal service allowing students more time to eat their meals and socialize with their peers.
Any monies received in the service line, will be applied to the student’s food service account; no change will be given back to students. This will reduce loss of funds given back to students and greatly increase the speed of the service line for all students. Negative Balance status can be avoided by making payments in the form of cash or checks at the school building before meal service or with debit card or credit card online
Parent/Guardians may check balances for food service accounts on line and are able to make deposits to student food service accounts on line. Parent/Guardians can also sign up for an email notification when their students account balance is low.
