One School, One Book

It’s that time again!  Humphrey is back but this time, he is looking for a new friend.  Who will it be?  On Monday, February 29th Humphrey the Hamster introduced the students to RIBSY!
Children at Lake Elementary gathered at Lake High School auditorium to watch our old friend Humphrey introduce our new reading friend, Ribsy, to motivate and entertain our students to read.   Students in kindergarten through fourth grade have been waiting weeks for the great reveal – the title of the book that they will all read together.  The suspense has been nail biting!  They have watched three funny video clues, listened to daily clues and guessed the book had something to do with an animal.  Each student will receive his or her own copy, thanks to monies earned through our annual cookie dough sale.  Parents, grandparents or older siblings are encouraged to read the book aloud to the children according to chapter-by-chapter schedule.  Teachers, administrators, secretaries, custodians, playground aides as well as local business owners and employees, will also be reading “Henry and Ribsy.” by Beverly Cleary.

Everyone will be talking about the book as students collect raffle tickets when they spot Ribsy pictures posted at various businesses and organizations around Lake Township, Millbury and Walbridge.  Families should visit the following businesses to collect their raffle tickets:  The Laundry, The Skillet, Walbridge 7-11, The Walbridge Library, Subway in Walbridge, Bubbles ‘n’ Bones, Vito’s Pizza and Subs, Mel-O-Creme, Athens Missionary Baptist Church, St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Calvary Lutheran Church, Mainstreet Church and St. Jerome’s Church.  There will also be daily trivia questions, which will allow students to be put in a drawing for cool prizes.
