Dear Flyer Community --
The end of this strange, unprecedented, challenging, and long year is in our sight. Our underclassmen have less than three weeks of school left and our seniors will have commencement exercises on Sunday, May 23. Commencement will be held in the stadium to accommodate more spectators. Parents and guardians of seniors should have received several communications detailing that day. If you plan to attend and if the sun is shining, please consider sunscreen and a hat! If there is a good chance of inclement weather, we will move inside to the fieldhouse. Moving inside will limit attendance based on the protocols of the Wood County Health Department so we will make every effort to hold the program in the stadium. In either case, the ceremony will be livestreamed and available for viewing.
While the end of the year is coming to a close, our people are planning for our annual Summer Soar program that will begin shortly after the end of the fourth quarter. Speaking of our website -- We are pleased to announce the launch of a new website design on Friday, May 14, 2021. There may be a period of time around 4:00 pm that the website will not be available during the transition. Check back this weekend to see the new and improved Lake Local Schools website.
On a different topic, a group of school administrators and a couple of board members continue to explore different scenarios for a new elementary school. We are in the process of gathering financial information, gathering information on the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission and the pros and cons of using that program, and assessing what we would need in a building that would house our youngest Flyers. In our last correspondence, we stated that it is the belief of the board and administration that any construction should be done with the best interests of our students while being good stewards of the taxpayers’ dollars. To add another layer to that statement, we also have to find a balance between what works now for kids but construct a learning environment that will be functional for the next 50 years. That adds to the planning phase and we take that very seriously. Moving forward, we will share as much information as possible with our community.
Finally, Governor Dewine has lifted the mandate on masks beginning on June 2, 2021. On our last two days of the year we will not require students or staff to wear masks. Students and staff may do so if they wish but it will not be required.
